This museum offers a wide variety of fascinating exhibits depicting the natural history of the Carolina's coast. Seashells, Indian artifacts, all species of waterfowl and wildlife are on display for the enjoyment of the whole family. Don't miss seeing the Reef Room, which is the largest and most fascinating in the southeast. The Museum of Coastal Carolina is in partnership with the Discovery Place Museum and is something you don't want to miss. This museum is located on 2nd Street directly across from East Coast Realty & Development. You can visit year-round Saturday 9 to 5 and Sunday 1 to 5. N.C. Oyster Festival Mark your calendar for the last weekend in October for a day of family fun at the N.C. Oyster Festival. Enjoy the crafts displayed by over 100 craftsmen in the arts and crafts show, along with numerous food booths with tempting food and drink items to whet your appetite. Live entertainment throughout the day keeps you busy as well as carnival rides for the children, and races for the athletic. A special event at the festival each year is the oyster shucking competition. The winner is crowned N.C. Oyster Shucking Champion and advances to the national competition. This is a weekend you won't want to miss! N.C. Festival By The Sea Another great weekend for fun and entertainment is the annual N.C. Festival By The Sea at Holden Beach. This event is highlighted with a parade, road races, and arts and crafts of all shapes and sizes. You won't go hungry at this event with all of the food vendors to tempt you with their wonderful aromas throughout the day. Other activities include sand sculpturing, kite flying, volleyball, golf long-driving contest, and a horseshoe pitching competition. Late in the evening you can take part in the annual street dance.
